Animation on Blu-ray

Batman Mask of the Phantasm was the first full-length animated feature based on the hit 90s television show by Bruce Timm. It is one of the best Batman movies of all time, and would be great to have on Blu-ray.

Hayao Miyazaki’s latest film is the first to receive the Blu-ray treatment here in the States, and Disney did it right. The great film combined with a surprising amount of bonus features makes this a must buy.

Three new titles were added to the database today, including Miyazaki’s latest film Ponyo, and two anime titles from Bandai.

Crisis on Two Earths is the latest direct-to-video DC Universe film from Warner Premiere, and is an enjoyable, action-packed film that is as entertaining as Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.

Halo Legends is a collection of seven animated short films that take place in the Halo mythology. It’s an interesting mix of styles and stories, and is recommended if you’re already a big Halo fan.

This week’s wishlist includes a Don Bluth classic and a film from my childhood that I totally missed when it was released.

The only animated Blu-ray coming out today is Dante’s Inferno, based on the upcoming video game, which is (loosely) based on the epic poem.

Dumbo, which was supposed to be released this week on Blu-ray, has apparently been pushed back until February of 2011 to coincide with it’s 70th Anniversary. Also in 2011: The Lion King.
